MOTOMAMI is the third studio album by Spanish singer-songwriter, ROSALÍA released via Columbia Records, Sony Music Entertainment and feature guest appearances from The Weeknd and Tokischa.
So much has transpired since the 2018 release of ROSALÍA’s EL MAL QUERER. The Spanish singer’s transition from critically acclaimed flamenco upstart to internationally renowned star—marked by creative collaborations with global tastemakers like Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish and Oneohtrix Point Never—has been nothing short of a metamorphosis.
Some three years later, her ability to navigate and dominate such a wide array of musical styles only raises expectations for her highly anticipated follow-up to her award-winning breakthrough effort.
Until recently, details about MOTOMAMI remained rightfully shrouded in secrecy; with the release of SAOKO, a leftfield reggaetón single that noisily nods to a genre classic while taking things in radical new directions, ROSALÍA’s femme-forward modus operandi becomes all the more clear.
Keeping that same energy is CHICKEN TERIYAKI, a boastful cut that brings a New York attitude to its thumping austerity. Drawing upon her experiences and adventures across genres, this revolutionary album tempers edgy moments with tender ones and vice versa, not infrequently on the very same track.
It gets deeper and more unexpected with the devilish yet austere electronic punk-funk of the title track and then with “HENTAI,” the latter a bilingual torch song that soon gives way to machine gun percussion. Add to that LA FAMA, her mystifying team-up with The Weeknd that fuses tropical Latin rhythms with avant-garde minimalism.
